Big Sugar Creek State Park Location: Exit on Hwy W off Hwy 7 and follow 8th Street east out of Pineville 5 miles; in McDonald County. Facilities: Hiking trail. Park is still in the development stage; planned amenities include a day-use area, special-use area for organized youth groups, and a canoe launch. Activities: Hiking. Special Features: Park preserves a portion of the Elk River Section of Missouri's Ozarks and features heavily forested hillsides, streams, and solitude. The area contains plants and animals that are less common or absent in other parts of the state, including armadillos, the chinquapin tree, and the Neosho orangethroat darter.
