Biggers, Earl Derr (1884–1933) writer; born in Warren, Ohio. He was a Harvard-educated Boston journalist who achieved widespread popularity with his mystery novel, Seven Keys to Baldpate (1913) (adapted for a successful play). His enduring fame, however, rests on his creation of the Hawaiian detective Charlie Chan, the patient, aphoristic hero of six novels beginning with The House Without a Key (1925). Chan was popularized through countless comics, radio programs, and films. How to thank TFD for its existence?
