Biggs, Hermann M. (1859–1923) physician; born in Trumansburg, N.Y. He was a professor at New York City's Bellevue Medical College and served both city and state as a public health official. He organized the department of pathology and bacteriology at the New York City Health Department (1892) and introduced new bacteriological methods. He introduced diphtheria antitoxin to the United States (1894) and formulated policies aimed at preventing the spread of tuberculosis. |
