Bikbai, Baiazit Gaiazitovich 

Born Jan. 9 (22), 1909, in the village of Kaltai, now in Kumertau Raion; died Sept. 2, 1968, in Ufa. Soviet Bashkir writer. Honored Art Worker of the Bashkir ASSR (1957).

Bikbai was born into the family of a village schoolteacher. His first collection of poems The Fleeting Days came out in 1932. Bikbai is the author of the following books about the life of the Bashkir working people: Beyond the Forest (1934), A Sunny Day (1934), and The Bright Land (1941); also collections of poems about the war: / Praise the Land (1941), The Little Kerchief (1942), and Fiery Verses (1943). Bikbai also worked as a playwright and wrote the plays Karlugas (1938), The Motherland Calls (1941), Children of One Family (1942), Salavat (1940–54), and Kakhym Turia (1957). The theme of his novel When the Akselian Overflows (1956) is the socialist transformation of the Bashkir village.
