Bioengineering System

    0.01 sec.
Bioengineering System

an aggregation of interrelated and interdependent biological and engineering systems or objects. For example, on board a spacecraft, the bioengineering system consists of a biocomplex selected in accordance with the purpose and duration of the flight and technical devices to provide optimum conditions for its functioning. Among the devices are subsystems to produce and distribute light, energy, and heat, a space greenhouse, kitchen, air and water regeneration units, and a unit for mineralization of wastes. Cardiac pacemakers and manipulators for work conditions under which it is undesirable for a human being to come in contact with the object to be controlled are other examples of bioengineering systems.

11 TA170 Like its companion predecessor (volume 10: Environmental Biotechnology) in the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series, this volume is intended as a both textbook and reference for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, designers of biotechnology and bioengineering systems, and researchers.
The curriculum will consist of seven core courses (Rate Processes in Biological Systems, Cellular and Tissue Biomechanics, Quantitative Cell Physiology, Transport Phenomena in Bioengineering Systems, Physiological Evaluation of Bioengineering Designs, Modern Methods of Drug Delivery, Biomedical Optics, Biosensor Techniques and Tissue Engineering) and three elective courses.
In addition, soil bioengineering systems create resistance to sliding or shear displacement in a stream bank as they develop roots or fibrous inclusions.
