Bjorken, James D. (1934–  ) physicist; born in Chicago, Ill. He taught and performed research at Stanford (1960–79), moved to the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (1979–90), then returned to Stanford (1991). He made major advances in quantum mechanics and studies of quark behavior and was a prolific contributor to professional journals and conferences.
