Blackmur, R. P. (Richard Palmer) (1904–65) literary critic, poet; born in Springfield, Mass. Self-educated, he became a prominent 1920s–1930s New Critic of modern literature, later writing involuted and difficult essays on critical theory. He also published three volumes of poems.
