In central NE, northeast of North Platte; organized Mar 5, 1885 from Custer County. Name Origin: For James Gillespie Blaine (1830-93), U.S. representative from ME (1863-76), U.S. senator (1876-81), and U.S. secretary of state (1881; 1889-92).
