Blastokinesis

    0.01 sec.
blastokinesis [‚blas·tō‚kə′nē·səs]
(invertebrate zoology)
Movement of the embryo into the yolk in some insect eggs.

Blastokinesis

a bending of the embryo in the process of embryonic development of certain arthropods (spiders, Onychophora, insects) and cephalopod mollusks.

Two stages of blastokinesis are distinguished: catathrep-sis, bending of the embryo to the ventral side; and anathrepsis, to the dorsal side. In the process of blastokinesis, the orientation of the embryo in relation to the axis of the ovum may change to its opposite.
