blastokinesis [‚blas·tō‚kə′nē·səs]
(invertebrate zoology) Movement of the embryo into the yolk in some insect eggs. Blastokinesis a bending of the embryo in the process of embryonic development of certain arthropods (spiders, Onychophora, insects) and cephalopod mollusks. Two stages of blastokinesis are distinguished: catathrep-sis, bending of the embryo to the ventral side; and anathrepsis, to the dorsal side. In the process of blastokinesis, the orientation of the embryo in relation to the axis of the ovum may change to its opposite. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
