bleeder resistor [′blēd·ər ri′zis·tər]
(electricity)
A resistor connected across a power pack or other voltage source to improve voltage regulation by drawing a fixed current value continuously; also used to dissipate the charge remaining in filter capacitors when equipment is turned off.

Smaller VFDs, however, have the bleeder resistor inside the drive's housing, which means it sits inside the cabinet.
Since the radio is procured commercially, the manufacturer is sending a bleeder resistor kit to slowly discharge any surface charge build-up on the antenna.
Additional safety is provided by bleeder resistors which are installed with the filters in order to prevent electrical shock due to accidental discharge of filter capacitors while power is disconnected.
