Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park


Location:In the Ohio River, 2 miles west of Parkersburg.
Facilities:Picnic areas, picnic shelter, snack bar, hiking trails, museum, historic site, gift shop.
Activities:Fishing, hiking, bicycling, crafts demonstrations, horse-drawn wagon rides, excursion boat rides, guided tours.
Special Features:This island in the Ohio River is the site where Blennerhassett and Aaron Burr allegedly plotted in 1806 to establish an empire in the southwest. A reconstructed mansion replaces the one originally built by Harman Blennerhassett in 1798 and destroyed by fire in 1811.
