Blokhin, Aleksei Aleksandrovich
Born May 18 (30), 1897, in the village of Golovino, Iaroslavl’ Province; died Oct. 6, 1942, in Ishimbaevo. Soviet oil-industry geologist and professor (1937). In 1929, Blokhin graduated from the Moscow Mining Academy. He worked as the deputy head of the main geological department of the National Commission on Heavy Industry of the USSR. His basic investigations were carried out on the Kerchensk Peninsula, the western slope of the Urals, and the Ural Region. His study of the oil-yielding capacity of the Bashkir Ural Region and his discovery in 1932 of the first large oil deposit (Ishimbaevo) were very important. REFERENCESNalivkin, D. V. “A. A.
