Blood Meal
a product of the processing of blood collected during the slaughter of cattle. It is used as a source of complete protein in the feeding of farm animals. First-quality meal contains a maximum of 9 percent water, no more than 3 percent fat, about 6 percent ash, and no less than 81 percent protein. One kilogram of blood meal with 9 percent moisture contains 1.06 feed units and 758 g of digestible protein. Blood meal is used for fattening all farm animals, but especially hogs, poultry, and fur-bearing animals. Blood meal that is unsuitable for feeding purposes is used as fertilizer.
