Bloomingdale, Alfred S. (1916–82) corporate executive; born in New York City (grandson of Lyman G. Bloomingdale). He produced plays and movies before founding (1950) a credit card firm which soon merged with Diners' Club. As Diners' Club president (1955–70) and chairman (1964–70), he helped to promote the rapid postwar growth of the credit card industry.
