Blount, James Henderson (blŭnt), 1837–1903, American public official, b. Jones co., Ga. U.S. Representative from Georgia (1873–93), he was chosen by President Cleveland as a special commissioner to the Hawaiian Islands in 1893. There the creation of an American-fostered provisional government, under Sanford B. Dole Dole, Sanford Ballard, 1844–1926, Hawaiian statesman, b. Honolulu, of American missionary parents. After education in the United States he returned to Hawaii and became prominent in public life.
