Name Origin: For the Blue Earth River, which runs through it; a transliteration of the Nankato name for the color of the earth in the river, used as a pigment by the Sisseton Sioux. Area (sq mi): 765.90 (land 752.36; water 13.54). Pop per sq mi: 77.10. Pop 2005: 58,030. State rank: 15. Pop change: 2000-20005 3.70%; 1990-2000 3.50%.
