Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park Location: 48 miles northeast of Lexington on US 68. Facilities: 32-room lodge with meeting facilities, 2 modern cottages, dining room that seats up to 255 people, 51 campsites with utility hookups, showers, and restrooms, picnic areas, picnic shelters (1 with restroom), hiking trails, nature preserve, swimming pool, 18-hole miniature golf course, playgrounds, museum, gift shop. Activities: Camping, swimming, fishing, hiking, boating, interpretive programs. Special Features: The salt springs at Blue Licks have attracted prehistoric animals, American Indians, pioneers (including Daniel Boone), and 19th-century southerners, who came for the rejuvenating effects of the therapeutic, bubbling waters. However, Blue Licks is more widely known as the site of the last Revolutionary War battle in Kentucky, where Kentuckians suffered great losses at the hands of British and Indian forces.
