Blu-ray player
(1) Software that plays Blu-ray and DVD discs. See media player.(2) A stand-alone unit that plays Blu-ray discs. Blu-ray players and "Blu-ray drives" are both input devices; however, the "player" is a Blu-ray source for a TV or home theater, whereas a "drive" is a peripheral device for a computer. In contrast, a "portable Blu-ray player" is a self-contained device with speakers.
In addition to the Blu-ray formats, Blu-ray players are also DVD players and handle a variety of CD and DVD formats (see DVD player). See Blu-ray and DVD.
