Bobinskii, Stanislav Ianovich 

Born Nov. 20, 1882; died 1937. Figure in the Russian and Polish workers’ movement; publicist. Communist Party member from 1905. Born in Warsaw into a noble family. Graduated from the philosophy department of the Jagellonian University in Kraków in 1910 and from the Forestry Academy near Dresden in 1911. Doctor of philosophy. Member of the Warsaw committee of the Social Democratic Party of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania (SDPL) from 1913.

Bobinskii was a representative of the SDPL at the Moscow committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) from May 1917 and a deputy to the Moscow soviet and member of its executive committee. He was a member of the executive committee of the SDPL groups in Russia from June 1917 and a member of the editorial collegium of the newspaper Tribuna. He was a delegate to the sixth RSDLP (Bolshevik) congress in 1917.

Bobinskii participated in the October armed uprising in Moscow. He became deputy chief of the Polish commissariat in December 1917. He represented Polish social democracy in the Soviet delegation at the peace negotiations in Brest in February 1918. From April 1918 he was commissar of the Polish Revolutionary Regiment, and later commissar of an infantry division. From September 1919 to May 1920, Bobinskii was a member of the Polish bureau of agitation and propaganda and then secretary of the Polish bureau of the Central Committee of the RCP (Bolshevik).

In 1919–20, Bobinskii was an instructor at the Sverdlov Communist University. He was one of the organizers and the first chairman of the central committee of the trade unions of agricultural workers. In 1920 he was a member of the revolutionary committee in Poland. Bobinskii was a delegate to the seventh, tenth, and 12th RCP (Bolshevik) congresses and to the third Comintern congress. He was a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee in 1919–20. During 1922–24, Bobinskii was the organizer and first rector of Urals University in Sverdlovsk. In 1925–26, he was a member of the Comintern Executive Committee and then held Party jobs in the Polish Communist Party. From 1929 to 1931, he was director of the Polytechnical Museum in Moscow and then did scientific and technological work. Bobinskii is the author of memoirs about the October Revolution and of several works on the history of the international workers’ movement.
