Bodie State Historic Park

Location: Northeast of Yosemite, 13 miles east of Highway 395 on Bodie Road.
Facilities: Visitor center, exhibits, picnic areas, restrooms.
Activities: Self-guided tours.
Special Features: Park preserves a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. When the Standard Company struck pay dirt in 1877, a gold rush transformed Bodie from a tiny hamlet into a boomtown of 10,000 people. A small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of "arrested decay." Bodie is open all year; however, because of the high elevation, it is accessible only by over-snow equipment during the winter months. The park's visitor center/museum is open only during the summer months, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Address: PO Box 515
Bridgeport, CA 93517
Phone: 760-647-6445;
Web: www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=509
Size: 1,064 acres. Elevation: 8,375 feet.
