Bogdanov, Ellii Anatol’evich 

Born May 5 (17), 1872; died Oct. 14,1931. One of the founders of zootechny in the USSR.

Bogdanov graduated from the department of art of the All-began teaching at the Moscow Agricultural Institute (now Agricultural Academy) in 1897 and became a professor there in 1908. He was one of the first to study the participation of proteins in the formation of fat in the body. He developed the concept of the nutrient value of fodder and in 1922–23 established the Soviet fodder unit. Bogdanov’s theory of body types became the basis for the exterior evaluation (evaluation of the build) of farm animals. Bogdanov developed important principles of raising young animals. His main works deal with the theory of selecting animals and breeding them according to lines and with livestock raising in the USSR, especially swine breeding.
