Bohannan, Paul J. (James) (1920–  ) anthropologist; born in Lincoln, Neb. He taught at Northwestern University (1959–75) and ended his career at the University of Southern California (1982–87). He published studies of African legal and economic anthropology (Africa and Africans (with Philip Curtin, 1964, revised 1971), Tiv Economy (with L. Bohannan, 1968)) and western middle-class concepts of marriage, family, and divorce (Divorce and After (1970)).
