Boldyrev, Anatolii Kapitonovich
Born Oct. 14 (26), 1883, in Graivoron, Kursk Province; died Mar. 25, 1946, near Magadan. Soviet crystallographer and mineralogist; doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences (1934); professor at the Leningrad Mining Institute (1921). In 1918, Boldyrev began his work with the Geological Committee (now the All-Union Geological Scientific Research Institute). Continuing the work of E. S. Fedorov, Boldyrev in 1925 proposed a method of determining the chemical composition of minerals by measurement of their crystals. He established one of the first X-ray measurement laboratories in Russia. The work, The Identification of Minerals by X-ray Measurement (parts 1–2, 1938–39), was compiled under his direction.
