Boletus Aurantiacus

a hymenomycetous mushroom of the family Boletaceae. The cap reaches a diameter of 20 cm (rarely 30 cm) and is red, orange, gray-brown, or white. Its spongy underside initially is white and then turns gray-brown. The base of the stipe is thickened; it is white with longitudinal white, brownish, or black scales. The white meat turns blue when bruised and then blackens. Boletus aurantiacus grows in forests of aspen, birch, oak, pine, and fir, as well as in mountain tundras with dwarf birches. It is eaten in fresh, dried, and marinated form.
