Bolgrad

 

a city, administrative center of Bolgrad Raion, Odessa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the shore of Lake Ialpug, 7 km from the Bolgrad railroad station. Population, 16,500 (1969). There are auto repair, brick-making, butter-and-cheese, and wine-making plants, as well as a clothes factory. The city was founded in 1821.
