In southeastern MO, west of Cape Girardeau; organized Mar 1, 1851 from Cape Girardeau, Madison, Stoddard, and Wayne counties. Name Origin: For Col. George Frederick Bollinger (1770-1842), who led German settlers into MO in 1800
