Bolton, Herbert (Eugene) (1870–1953) historian; born in Wilton, Wis. This leading historian of Spanish America taught at the University of California: Berkeley (1911–40). A prolific author, he is best known for his explorations in the southwestern U.S.A., his extensive archival research and a massive published guide to Mexican archives (1913), and the "Bolton theory," a controversial hemispheric view of American history. |
