A section of wood built horizontally into a brick or stone wall in order to strengthen it or to hold it together during construction.

bond timber

A timber built into a brick or stone wall in a horizontal position, for the purpose of strengthening it or for tying it together during construction; serves as a bonding course and as a means for securing the battening and bracketing.
