1 Father of the owner of the cave of Machpelah Machpelah , cave, near Hebron; also called the Cave of the Patriarchs. The Book of Genesis relates that it was bought by Abraham from Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite, for a family burial place. 2 Son of Simeon. An alternative form is Zerah. For the book of Zohar, see kabbalah kabbalah or cabala [Heb.,=reception], esoteric system of interpretation of the Scriptures based upon a tradition claimed to have been handed down orally from Abraham.
