bore evacuator [′bȯr i′vak·yə‚wād·ər]
(ordnance)
A device placed on the tube of artillery weapons to force propellant gases to flow outward through the muzzle end of the bore from a cylindrical chamber around the gun tube; the chamber encloses a series of jets around the cannon tube through which the gases flow.

The instructions for servicing the bore evacuator start on Page 3-247 of TM 92350-264-10-2, Page 3-138 of TM 9-2350-288-10-2.
Mechanics, Pages 2-3 of PS 615 (Feb 04) said to replace damaged O-rings at the front and rear of the bore evacuator after the M1-series tank is fired.
Something as small as a torn bore evacuator O-ring could result in a deadly flareback.
