Venkov, Boris Alekseevich 

Born July 31 (Aug. 13), 1900, in the village of Kratovo, now Pskov Oblast; died Dec. 13, 1962, in Leningrad. Soviet mathematician. Graduated from Leningrad University in 1925 and became a professor there in 1935.

Venkov’s work is in the field of the theory of numbers. In 1928 he derived an elementary proof of the Dirichlet formulas for a number of the classes of binary squared forms. In 1940 he constructed a continuum of various methods of reduction of positive squared forms. The abstract characterization of parallelohedrons was developed by him.
