Caragea, Boris
Born Jan. 11, 1906, in Balchik, Bulgaria. Rumanian sculptor. Honored Artist of the Socialist Republic of Rumania, or SRR (1951). Corresponding member of the Academy of the SRR. Caragea graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Bucharestin 1932. He is a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucha-rest. He created monuments to the Soviet soldier-liberator in Ia-§i (1947) and to V. I. Lenin in Bucharest (1960)—both in bronze.He also created easel sculptures (The Meeting, 1950; Victory, 1957; both in bronze, Museum of Arts of the SRR, Bucharest).Caragea has been awarded the State Prize of the SRR (1950 and1953).
