Efimov, Boris Efimovich 

Born Sept. 15 (28), 1900, in Kiev. Soviet graphic artist. People’s Artist of the USSR (1967); corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1954).

Efimov, a contributor to the newspapers Pravda and Izvestiia and to the magazine Krokodil since 1922, became the editor in chief of the Agitplakat artistic production association in 1966. His cartoons on topical political issues deal with international themes. Efimov’s works appear in the albums Political Cartoons from 1924 to 1934 (1935), Fascism—the Enemy of the Peoples (1937), Hitler and His Gang (1943), International Reporting (1961), and Boris Efimov in Izvestiia: 50 Years of Cartoons (1969). Efimov, a recipient of the State Prize of the USSR in 1950 and 1951, has been awarded four orders and several medals.

Yefimov was brought up as Boris Fridland, in Kiev, in Bialystok, now part of Poland.
Yefimov was born Boris Fridland, the second son of a Jewish shoemaker in Kiev, though the family moved west to Bialystok (now in Poland).
