Boris Taslitzky

    0.02 sec.
Taslitzky, Boris

Born Sept. 30, 1911, in Paris. French painter and graphic artist. Member of the French Communist Party.

In the 1930’s, Taslitzky studied in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under J. Lipchitz and J. Lurcat. From 1941 to 1944 he was incarcerated by the fascist Germans at Buchenwald. The work of Taslitzky, clearly influenced by expressionism, is suffused with realism and with a reaffirmation of the ideas of humanism, peace, and social justice. Among his works are The Death of Daniel Ka-zanov in Buchenwald (1950, in a museum in Montreux), a series of sketches of French Communist Party figures (1956), and a series of paintings devoted to Algeria (1954–55, 1959–60).
