Bornhöhe, Eduard 

(pseudonym of E. Brunberg). Born Feb. 17, 1862, on the Kullaaru estate near Rakvere; died Nov. 17, 1923, in Tallin. Estonian writer.

Bornhöhe was one of the first Estonian writers of the historical genre. He studied at the University of Tartu and worked as a teacher, a journalist, and a judge. Bornhóhe’s works are imbued with thoughts of the people’s struggle against their baronial oppressors. The novella The Avenger (1880) deals with the Estonian peasant uprising of 1343, as does a second novella, The Battle of Villu (1890). Episodes from the Livonian War are included in the novella Prince Gabriel, or the Last Days of the Pirit Monastery (1893). Bornhóhe also wrote on urban themes.
