Borough, William, 1536–99, British naval officer. A younger brother of Stephen Borough Borough, Stephen (bûr`ō, bŭ`rō), 1525–84, English navigator.

As a naval officer he took part in Sir Francis Drake Drake, Sir Francis, 1540?–1596, English navigator and admiral, first Englishman to circumnavigate the world (1577–80).

He was born in Devonshire, the son of a yeoman, and was at an early age apprenticed to a ship captain.
