Borozdin, Aleksandr Kornil’evich 

Born Mar. 23 (Apr. 4), 1863, in St. Petersburg; died there Oct. 6, 1918. Russian literary critic and historian.

Borozdin graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1885. He became professor at the University of St. Petersburg in 1901. His basic works, Protopop Avvakum: A. Sketch of the Intellectual Life of Russian Society in the 17th Century (1898) and Sketches of Russian Religious Dissent (1905), contain much factual material. Borozdin is the author of the work Literary Characteristics: The 19th Century (vols. 1–2, lst-3rd eds., 1903–07) and works about A. S. Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, T. A. Granovskii, the Slavophiles, and others.
