Botsu, Pavel Petrovich
Born June 14, 1933, in the village of Priozernoe, Izmail Raion, Odessa Oblast. Soviet Moldavian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1961. Graduated in 1956 from the Kriange Pedagogical Institute in Kishinev. In 1959, Botsu’s collection of poems Land of the Fathers was published, after which collections of poems, stories, and sketches and a book for children followed. He has translated the poems of V. V. Mayakovsky, S. Ia. Marshak, and others into Moldavian. He is active as a critic and publicist. Energetic verse and a rich lexicon are characteristic of Botsu’s poetry. Botsu is head of the Directorate of the Union of Writers of the Moldavian SSR (since 1965) and secretary of the Directorate of the Union of Writers of the USSR (since 1967).
