Bovshover, Joseph

Born 1873 in Liubavichi, Mogilev Province; died 1916 in New York. Yiddish writer.

As a young boy, Bovshover ran away from home and emigrated to the USA in 1891. While working in a factory, he began to write revolutionary verses. His poetry, imbued with hatred for the exploiters, is filled with optimism and a fighting spirit. The American publishing house Freie Arbeiter Stimme published his Selected Works in 1911. His Selected Verses were published in Petrograd in 1918. A collection of Bovshover’s poetry in Yiddish appeared in the USSR in 1931.
