Bryan, city (1990 pop. 55,002), seat of Brazos co., E central Tex.; inc. 1872. Settled in the early 19th cent. in an area of large plantations, Bryan was long a cotton center. Farms still produce agricultural goods, and manufactures include building materials, furniture, and electronic, office, and laboratory equipment. The economy, however, is primarily tied to education and research. The Research and Development Center of Texas A&M Univ. and the Agricultural Experimental Station are in Bryan, and College Station border Bryan on the southeast. How to thank TFD for its existence?
