Boyd Orr, John Boyd Orr, 1st Baron, 1880–1971, British nutritionist and agricultural scientist, b. Scotland, grad. Univ. of Glasgow. He was professor of agriculture at the Univ. of Aberdeen (1942–45), government consultant on nutrition and health, and director-general (1946–47) of the Food and Agriculture Organization Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1945.
