Boys' method [′bȯiz ‚meth·əd] (optics) A method of measuring the refractive index of a lens, in which the curvatures of the lens surfaces are determined by positioning a light source so that reflection from a surface gives an image coincident with the object; these curvatures and the focal length are used to calculate the refractive index.
