Brachiosaurus [‚brā·kē·ə′sȯr·əs]
(paleontology) A herbivorous sauropod dinosaur, 90 feet (27 meters) long and weighing 85 - 110 tons, from the Late Jurassic that had a very long neck. Brachiosaurus a genus of reptiles of the suborder Sauropoda of the order Saurischia of dinosaurs. The body measures over 20 m long and the body build resembles that of the giraffe: the forelegs are very long. There are two species. The Brachiosaurus lived in the late Jurassic, inhabiting the shores of large bodies of water and feeding on vegetation. The fossils of Brachiosaurus serve as instructional material.
