Brady, (James Buchanan) “Diamond Jim” (1856–1917) financier; born in New York City. He worked for the New York Central Railroad, became a salesman of railroad equipment (1879) and then the only agent in the U.S.A. for the Fox Pressed Steel Car Truck Company of England (1888). Extremely rich and known for living in high style as one of the great Broadway "sports," he wore diamond jewelry estimated at $2 million in value. But he remained a serious businessman, active in several enterprises, and accumulated a large fortune, much of which he gave for urological studies at Johns Hopkins Hospital and New York Hospital. He never married. How to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit webmaster's page for free fun content. |
