Brainerd (brā`nərd), city (1990 pop. 12,353), seat of Crow Wing co., central Minn., on the Mississippi River, in a pine-forest and lake region; inc. 1881. Founded (1870) by the Northern Pacific RR, it is still a railroad center with repair shops.
