(civil engineering) A secondary line in a railroad system that connects to the main line. (engineering) branch line 1. A water supply line which connects one or more fixtures with the main supply, with a riser, or with another branch. 2. A pipe in which fire sprinklers (i.e., sprinkler heads) are placed.
