Brandys, Anatolii Iakovlevich 

Born Aug. 12, 1923, in Nizhnedneprovsk. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Feb. 23 and June 29, 1945). Colonel (1956) and candidate of military science. Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Brandys has been in the Soviet Army since June 1941. He graduated from the Military Aviation School for Pilots in 1943. During the Great Patriotic War he progressed from pilot to commander of a squadron of the 75th Guards Attack Air Regiment, and he completed 228 combat sorties. After the Great Patriotic War he had command responsibilities. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1950 and the General Staff Academy in 1959. Brandys is on the teaching staff of military educational institutions. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, Orders of the Patriotic War First Class, of Alexander Nevsky, of the Red Star, and various medals.
