Brauner, Aleksandr Aleksandrovich
Born Jan. 13 (25), 1857, in Simferopol’; died May 5, 1941. Soviet zoological taxonomist, zootechnician, and archaeologist. In 1881, Brauner graduated from the Novorossiisk University in Odessa. The Agricultural Institute was organized in 1918 in Odessa with Brauner’s direct participation. He directed the subdepartment of animal husbandry there. From 1933 to 1935 he was a consultant at the Institute of Hybridization and Acclimatization of Animals in Askaniia-Nova. His principal works are devoted to the mammals, birds, fish, and insects of the Ukraine and Crimea.
