| Toward the end of November 1863, four months after the twin disasters of Vicks-burg and Gettysburg, Confederate forces led by General Braxton Bragg followed up a bloody victory at Chickamauga by laying siege to William Rosecran's Army of the Cumberland in Chattanooga. Inexperience on both sides and the South's failure to act as a whole turned what could have been a victory into a retreat, and consigned Confederate General Braxton Bragg to be forever remembered as mediocre. |
