Brevicipitinae
a subfamily of salientians of the family Polypedatidae. A characteristic of the subfamily is a palate covered with folds of glandular epithelial tissue. There are three genera, distributed in Africa. The genus Breviceps comprises 17 species. The animals move, or crawl, slowly; they often burrow in the ground. They feed on termites. When these salientians emerge from the eggs, they have already completed metamorphosis into young frogs. The species Breviceps mossambicus reaches a length of 5 cm.
